Call for Applications - LYUK-BILNAS Libyan Archive Project

We are thrilled to invite you to an exciting project collaboration between the British Institute of Libyan and Northern African Studies (BILNAS) and LYintheUK, in partnership with the Centre for Endangered Archaeology. This project aims to delve into the rich tapestry of Libyan culture and heritage, focusing on clothing, architecture, archaeology, and personal stories captured in the BILNAS archive.

This session is part of a series of themed remote events on Libyan heritage, using materials from the BILNAS Archive. We're excited to bring together history enthusiasts, scholars, and anyone interested in exploring the everyday lives of Libyans through their clothing, architecture, archaeology, and personal stories.

What to Expect:

Archive Introduction: A few weeks before the event, we will send you an email introducing the BILNAS Archive and providing links to images for you to preview and annotate if you wish.

Interactive Annotation: During the event, you will have the opportunity to share your insights, memories, and thoughts about clothing, architecture, archaeology, and personal stories captured in the BILNAS archive. Your comments will be used to enrich our archive catalog and may even contribute to the creation of an online bilingual exhibition.

Discussion: Engage in a guided discussion about the social significance, connotations, and personal memories associated with clothing, architecture, and archaeology. We want to explore the social status, political outlook, age, regional affiliations, and more through these elements.

Annotate Online: We will make 70 selected photographs from the BILNAS archive available for annotation. You can select portions of digital images and create annotations, considering various aspects of clothing, architecture, archaeology, names, traditions, and personal stories.

This event offers a unique opportunity to contribute to our understanding of Libyan heritage, bringing to life the stories and memories of people through various facets of their culture, from clothing to architecture and archaeology.

How to Participate:

If you're interested in joining this event and making a meaningful contribution to the exploration of Libyan heritage, please register your interest by signing up
